CAMP GUIDE |
SINCE 1991Your camp, Your way Futures Sports has been welcoming players of all ages and levels to participate in our residential hockey camps since 1991. We have a high staff to player ratio that ensures every player at Futures Sports has an amazing and unique camp experience. Our philosophy is to facilitate a safe, fun learning environment, where young players can perform to their very best. Whether you are just starting out, or are already playing at youth international level, we have a Camp and a programme for you. |
COACHES & WELFARE TEAMA Professional Team All our coaches and welfare staff are appropriately qualified, DBS checked and have had first aid and safeguarding training. We have developed a strong team ethos over the years and have many staff who return year on year. We employ high quality, fun, fair people with bags of enthusiasm and knowledge. Our Head coach changes from camp to camp, however, they are all Level 3 or 4 qualified with current knowledge and generally with international playing and or coaching experience. They are supported by a team of Level 2 Lead coaches. We operate an open staff recruitment process but also actively welcome back many former camp players to the Futures Team, supported by a coach/staff training programme. We also invite top international players to guest visit on each camp. Our staff to student ratio is approximately 1 to 5. We fundamentally believe that providing the best people in key roles makes for an exciting, productive and memorable camp experience. | HEALTH & SAFETY AND ACCOMMODATIONCovering the Bases We take the health, safety and welfare of the students very seriously. Our welfare teams have all successfully completed nationally recognised Safeguarding and First Aid training. Every member of our staff is fully involved in making sure all aspects of the camps meet our high standards. In 2020 we reviewed all Health & Safety procedures and developed Covid-19 mitigation measures for all camp environments. Group Leaders are responsible for pastoral care throughout the Camp, and are supported by our Welfare Team who together ensure that the needs of all the children are fully met. Our accommodation sites have clearly defined secure boundaries which are monitored by CCTV and professional security staff 24 hours per day. In addition our on site staff conduct regular checks of the accommodation and social areas of the campus. Accommodation consists of single, twin or small dormitory rooms in blocks or school houses (depending on venue). Boys and girls are housed in separate blocks/houses and players are housed with others of a similar age. |
COACHING GROUPSEvery player has unique needs Each Camp has 4 or 5 groups, depending on numbers and range of abilities. Assessments take place on Day 1 of camp and players are grouped by ability. There is of course flexibility with this and therefore some movement between groups during the week. For each level of camp we have a constantly evolving technical and tactical skill development programme. The programme is adapted by the Head coaches to meet the needs and level of each group. We operate a learner centred approach based on hockey game principles of play. As well as focusing on elements of the England Hockey Player Pathway and in preparing players for progression through the various centres/levels, we also incorporate ideas and training techniques from other systems, including the Belgian, Dutch, Australian and Asian systems. Our coaching team is diverse and international, with a wide range of elite level and youth development experience. Our head coaches are usually currently or recently working with an international squad or programme. | VENUES & FACILITIESEverything you could wish for Oundle School, Northamptonshire
